‘How I Met Your Mother’ Ends Legendary Run

The sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders and Alyson Hannigan comes to an end after its nine-year run.

The two-episode finale, airing Monday night, will conclude the story Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) started way back in 2005. The story, jumping back and forth through time, made viewers sit at the edge of their seats as they tried to solve the puzzle of the mother’s hidden identity. The mother was finally revealed in last year’s finale episode, who was played by Wolf of Wall Street actress, Cristin Milioti.

Executive producers and co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas already had in mind how the last scene of the episode will play out way back in 2005. In fact, they even filmed part of the finale in 2006, which will be shown in tonight’s episode.

“It’s surreal that the ending is coming,” Thomas said. “We shot that little bit with the kids in fall of 2006, I think, and it’s part of the end game. You will see it on March 31.”

All of the flashbacks and flash-forwards have allowed fans of the show to fall in love with each character for their witty remarks and the bond they have with each other. If everything goes according to plan, there may even be a HIMYM spin-off How I Met Your Dad. CBS has officially ordered a pilot of the show, with actress Greta Gerwig to play the lead role telling the story of how she met her partner.

Needless to say “It’s going to be legen-, wait for it, -dary.” Well said, Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris).
