Netflix Orders Four Original Marvel Series

Marvel announced this week that they will develop four original series exclusively for Netflix. The shows will be focused on Marvel characters Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

The Marvel-Netflix deal guarantees 13 episodes for the four shows and a final miniseries called The Defenders, where all four of the heroes will team up together.

There is no word yet on whether these shows will tie into Marvel’s television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the big screen Marvel Universe.

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos stated, “Marvel’s movies, such as Iron Man and Marvel’s The Avengers, are huge favorites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels. With House of Cards and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we’re thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.”

Expect the shows to begin streaming on Netflix in 2015.
