Simon Cowell Considering Major Changes to ‘The X Factor’

There are big changes ahead for The X Factor. The reality-based talent show brought in its lowest ratings this season, however, Simon Cowell, the executive producer and judge of the singing competition, remains highly optimistic that it will be back next year. Cowell tells Billboard that conversations with Fox about the next season of X Factor are ongoing and that they are considering major format changes to boost ratings and make the next season a success.

The fourth season of The X Factor is expected to look very different, with the show possibly airing only one night a week instead of two nights. Cowell is also planning on mixing things up at the judging panel, so Season 3 judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio may not be returning next season. Demi Lovato has already confirmed she will not be returning.  As for Simon, he vaguely mentioned a possible role change for himself, which means he will most likely not be returning as a judge either.

“We have to be more different next year than we were this year,” Cowell said. “So, we’re in the middle of a presentation to Fox to say this is what we think the show should look like, this is what we think the fans would like. And, yes, my role could change on that show. But, I can’t say much more than that.”

Be sure to watch the Season 3 finale of The X Factor tonight on Fox!
