The Simpsons paid tribute to bid farwell to David Letterman Sunday night. The Fox animated series dedicated their opening couch segment to the late night host, who announced his 2015 retirement earlier this week.
The one-minute video begins with the family in a New York taxi cab sitting in traffic. They jump out of the cab and walk to the Ed Sullivan Theater, where the late night show is hosted. Then a bodyguard standing at the door with a list blocks their passage, so Homer head-butts his way inside. Inside the studio, there is another guard by the stage door and once again, Homer head-butts her and the family runs inside.
The family plop onto the couch, but the late-night host sounds disappointed there wasn’t more stating, “That’s it? We flew you in and put you up for that? I think we’re done here.” Paul Schaffer and the CBS Orchestra then begin playing the Simpsons’ theme song.
The clip ends with a cue card that reads “We’ll miss you, Dave.”
