Reports are coming in that celebrity couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are filing for divorce after five years of marriage.
“”This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” Jonathan Wolfe, Katie Holmes’s attorney, told People. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
Holme’s filed for the divorce on June 28 in New York City citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason. She is seeking sole legal custody and “primary residential custody” of their daughter Siri as well as a substantial amount of money for child support.
Cruise’s representative released a statement saying, “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”
He also told TMZ that Tom was blind-sided by Katie’s legal action and is “very sad” about the current situation.
Cruise (49) and Holmes (33) were married in Italy in 2006 after a very public and headline-drive romance.
This is Cruise’s third divorce and the first for Holmes. Tom has two children from his previous marriage to Nicole Kidman.
