2016 Golden Globe Nominations Announced

The nominees for the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday morning. Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Dennis Quaid were among those who revealed the nominations.

In film, Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, and the comedy The Big Short scored the most nominations, while Starz’s Outlander, FX’s Fargo, USA Network’s Mr. Robot, Amazon’s Transparent, ABC’s American Crime and BBC Two’s Wolf Hall received the most nods in television with three each.

Netflix shows received a total of eight nominations, while HBO received seven and Starz received six. For the first time ever, NBC was shut out of the nominations.

Snubs included Johnny Depp for his role as crime boss Whitey Bulger in Black Mass. The film itself received zero nominations. The actors in the drama film Spotlight were also ignored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Downton Abbey, which is about to air its final season, and House of Cards failed to get nominated this year unlike previous years. There was also not a single nomination for the cast members of Game of Thrones.

Surprise nominations included Lady Gaga for her role on FX’s American Horror Story: Hotel and Rachel Bloom for the CW comedy series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Sylvester Stallone got a nod for best supporting actor for Creed and Mad Max: Fury Road earned a best picture nod in the drama category .

The Golden Globes will air Sunday, January 10, 2016 on NBC and will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.
