Lionsgate Reloads ‘John Wick 2’ with Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as an ex-hitman in Lionsgate’s John Wick 2.

Earlier in February, CEO Jon Feltheimer announced that a follow-up for the action film was in the works, but refrained from giving out any details. The original creative team of David Leitch and Chad Stahelski will be returning for the sequel as directors, with Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk returning as producer and Derek Kolstad back as the film’s screenwriter.

“With such tremendous fan and critical support for John Wick, we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell,” said Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Lionsgate.

“We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.”

The original John Wick, which debuted in the fall of 2014, earned $43 million domestically and a worldwide gross of $78.7 million. Alongside Reeves, John Wick starred Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo and Willem Dafoe.

The film centered around a former assassin (played by Reeves) who was seeking vengeance for the killing of his puppy, a gift from his late wife.
