Why has Nicolas Cage been in so many TERRIBLE films lately?

Why has Nicolas Cage been starring in a plethora of terrible movies lately?  Maybe it has something to do with his $13 million bill to Uncle Sam.

Since 2002, Nicolas Cage reportedly owes the IRS $13,330,372.83 for federal income tax debts in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008.

The bill looks something like this:

2002 – $70,190.05

2003 – $179,738.23

2004 – $110,617.56

2007 – $6,257,005

2008 – $6,712,821.99

Therefore, to pay off his debt to the IRS, Nicolas Cage seems to be taking any role offered to him.

Just last year Cage starred in five films:  Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Trespass, Seeking Justice, Drive Angry AND Season of the Witch.  None of Cage’s 2011 films ever came close to breaking even. Drive Angry lost over $40 million alone.

So, what caused Cage to put himself in such a rut?

“Over the course of my career I have paid at least $70 million in taxes,” Cage released in a 2010 statement. “Unfortunately, due to a recent legal situation, another approximate $14 million is owed to the IRS, however, I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009. All taxes will be paid including any to be determined state taxes.”

The good news is that Nicolas Cage is half way done paying off his massive IRS bill.  According to TMZ article released today, Cage has paid off the full $6,257,005  he owed the IRS for 2007.

Now with five films set for release in the next two years (including a National Treasure 3), hopefully Cage can completely pay off his debt to Uncle Sam and finally make a decent movie once again.
