NFL Is Finally on YouTube: What Took So Long?

The NFL has officially launched a YouTube channel to feature highlights and game recaps.

The league announced on Monday that they have partnered with Google, who owns YouTube, to launch an official NFL YouTube channel. The NFL YouTube channel allows fans to access official game previews, in-game highlights, recaps and other select content from the NFL Network.

“Partnering with YouTube and Google provides the NFL unique access to millions of highly engaged fans through the global leader in video and search,” Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s senior VP of media strategy, business development and sales, said in a statement.

The league over the years has been very protective about distributing their content through various networks and TV-service providers, like DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket. The NFL realized that digital content has grown over the last few years and getting involved in digital distribution would be a huge opportunity for the NFL.

“We continue to see an insatiable appetite for digital video content, and this partnership further expands fans’ ability to discover and access NFL content throughout the year,” said Hans Schroeder.

The NFL YouTube channel currently does not provide any live-stream game coverage, because they want to focus on “non-live highlights,” according to NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy.
