Anderson Cooper Won’t Inherit Mother’s $200 Million

CNN Host Anderson Cooper, son of heiress Gloria Vanderbilt, will not be inheriting his mother’s fortune, and he is completely okay with that.

Gloria Vanderbilt, 90, is known for many things, but most specifically for being the great-great-great-granddaughter of railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt, as well as making a career for herself in the fashion and art industry.

During an interview on Howard Stern’s radio show, the 46-year-old news anchor expressed his opinion on trust funds and how they do not motivate him to work hard.

“I don’t believe in inheriting money. I think it’s an initiative sucker. I think it’s a curse. Who’s inherited a lot of money that has gone on to do things in their own life?

He continues on by stating, “From the time I was growing up, if I felt that there was some pot of gold waiting for me, I don’t know that I would’ve been so motivated. I’m doing fine on my own, I don’t need any.”

Though he declined to answer if he is a multimillionaire himself, when asked by Stern, the Silver Fox journalist makes a reported $11 million per year from working at CNN.

Cooper’s wealthy upbringing did not make him oblivious to the value of a dollar. While his mother may have had an affluent lifestyle growing up, his father did not. His dad “grew up really poor in Mississippi,” he said. “I more paid attention to that because I thought that’s a healthier thing to pay attention to than like some statute of a great-great-great grandfather who has no connection to my life.”

According to CelebrityNetWorth.com, Anderson Cooper has a net worth of $100 million.
