Chris Brown D.C. Assault Case Gets Trial Date

A D.C. Superior Court judge has set April 17 as the start date for the misdemeanor assault trial against R&B singer Chris Brown on Thursday. The singer’s lawyers attended the hearing since a  judge allowed Brown to stay in California where he is currently in a treatment facility from the assault case on Rihanna in 2009.

Brown and his bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, were arrested in October after a fan, Parker Isaac Adams, claims the singer punched him in the face. The lawsuit states the 20-year-old man was trying to get in a picture that Brown was taking with two of Adams’ friends outside the W Hotel, when the incident occurred.

Adams was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and was released. He told reporters that he suffered a broken nose. The man is suing Brown and Hollosy for $3 million for “pain and suffering”. According to Associated Press, “the lawsuit seeks compensatory damages of $1 million and punitive damages of $500,000 from each man.”

According to the police report, Brown told the man, “I’m not down with that gay [expletive]” and “I feel like boxing.  An attorney for Brown said, “There’s nothing there”, referring to the the surveillance video that the prosecutors have.

Tommy Sanders, a friend of Brown’s uncle said, “I don’t believe it happened the way they said it happened. We’ll find out. But once you have somebody who is protecting you, a true and real protector will go the extra mile.”

The trial will begin on April 17, 2014 and is expected to last two to three days.
