Joseph Gordon-Levitt Opens Up on Drug Use and Secret Girlfriend

Sirius XM radio host Howard Stern sat down with writer, director and star of the upcoming Relativity Media film Don Jon, Joseph Gordon- Levitt, where he opened up about his drug use and secret girlfriend.

When Levitt was asked whether he preferred smoking weed to drinking he expressed that , “They’re two very different things, drinking can be fun sometimes, but no weed is more — I certainly do it more often … I go through fazes sometimes where it’s every day, it’s not every day these days.”

The 32-year-old then went on to explain that marijuana gets his creative juices following. “I pace around and have all sorts of good ideas,” he continued. “I was stoned when I first thought of ‘Don Jon’ as a comedy … the way I use it, I absolutely think it has a positive influence on my creative process.”

While Levitt admitted that he’s not a fan of harder drugs such as cocaine, he admitted that he does enjoy an LSD trip every now and then. “I like LSD. I haven’t done it very many times, it’s so powerful. I’ve only done it a handful of times. You have to take care and really do it right.”

The star continued by saying, “Let me be really clear, you have to be very careful. It’s extremely powerful and you should have someone who’s not doing it [around]. You should make sure wherever you did get it [it’s] super trustworthy and someone you know has already taken a dose off it.”

Not only did Stern get Levitt to open up about his drug use, but his secret loves life as well. “I have a girlfriend, but I tend not to really like to talk about it in public,” he told Stern. “She is not in show business,” he continued. “The girl that I’m with, she really doesn’t want to be a part of that. You can imagine not wanting to have that scrutiny.”

Be sure to catch Don Jon when it hits theaters on September 27th.
