‘Argo’ Finally Tops Box Office Weekend

After three weeks since Argo‘s release, it finally made its way to the top spot on the box office this weekend.  The Warner Bros film starring and directed by Ben Affleck made $12.4 million at the box office this weekend.  The film is inspired by the real-life rescue of six U.S. embassy workers during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis.

“We’re thrilled. An accomplishment like that is well deserved, they don’t happen very often. You would probably have to do a lot of searching to find a movie that opened in wide release to have two No. 2 weekends in a row and hit No. 1 in the third week,” Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros. said in a statement.

For the last two weeks Argo had been stuck in second place.  Thanks to this weekend’s #1 spot at the box office the film has now earned a total of $60.8 million domestically.
