‘Girl With Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel Won’t Be Released in 2013

The sequel to last year’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will not be released next year like originally planned.

A source close to the film told EW that Dragon Tattoo writer Steven Zaillian has not finished penning the script for the upcoming sequel The Girl Who Played With Fire.  Therefore, production cannot begin until the script is finished.

Although the Sony Pictures has not announced a release date, the film is definitely moving forward, according to the source.

Both Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are expected to reprise their roles as Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist, respectively.  Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher is reportedly the first choice to head the sequel but nothing has been confirmed by the studio.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo opened in theaters on December 21, 2011 and grossed $232,617,430 worldwide.  The film was nominated for five Academy Awards and won and Oscar for “Best Film Editing.”
