Not only does Joss Whedon write and direct films about superheroes, but he plays the role of a superhero himself in real life.
Director of Thor: The Dark World, Alan Taylor, revealed that Whedon rewrote several scenes for the film. Whedon, who wrote and directed the hugely successful The Avengers, was “airlifted in” to save the day when Thor 2 ran into some problems.
“Joss came in to save our lives a couple of times,” Taylor said. “We had a major scene that was not working on the page at all in London, and he basically got airlifted in, like a SWAT team or something. He came down, rewrote the scene, and before he got back to his plane I sort of grabbed him and said, ‘And this scene and this scene?’ And he rewrote two other scenes that I thought had problems.”
After re-shooting the scenes, Taylor stated they were “just much better and much lighter on their feet. Much more fun, much more surprising than what we had been trying to do.”
We will have to wait and see if Whedon actually saved the Thor sequel with his superpower writing skills ourselves when the film is released November 8. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Hopkins all star in the film.
