‘Ride Along’ Tops Super Bowl Weekend Box Office

Ice Cube and Kevin Hart’s cop-buddy comedy Ride Along topped the box office over Super Bowl weekend with $12.3 million in its third week straight week.  The film, which set the record for biggest January opening ever, is on track to surpass the $100 million mark after next week.  To date, the film has earned $93 million in North America on a production budget of only $25 million.

Disney’s Frozen bumped up from fourth place to second this week with a box office take of $9.3 million.  The animated flick has been in theaters for eleven weeks and has earned an impressive $360 million in North America and over $864 million worldwide.  Frozen now stands as the sixth highest-grossing animated film in North America and will soon pass fifth place’s Despicable Me 2 with $368 million.

Box office newcomer That Awkward Moment, starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, opened with $9.01 million over the weekend.  The romantic comedy was produced on a meager budget of $8 million, so the film has already cleared the red.

Animated comedy The Nut Job and Universal Pictures’ Lone Survivor round out the top five films at the box office with $7.6 million and $7.2 million, respectively.
