Rob Zombie’s Next Film: ‘The Munsters’ for Universal Pictures

Rob Zombie has announced that his next film project will be to direct the first-ever reboot of The Munsters for Universal Pictures. The 1964 spooky-comedy sitcom about a family of monsters who moved to an American suburb ran for just two seasons on NBC but eventually spawned a sequel series in 1988.

“The rumors are true! My next film project will be the one I’ve been chasing for 20 years! THE MUNSTERS! Stay tuned for exciting details as things progress!” Zombie wrote via Instagram post. The announcement was made just four months after Netflix revealed Wednesday, an Addams Family spinoff directed by Tim Burton was to come.

The film will feature Zombie’s wife Sheri Moon Zombie playing Lily Munster (originally played by Yvonne De Carlo) and Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster (originally played by Fred Gwynne). The cast will also include Richard Brake, Dan Roebuck, Jorge Garcia and Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson.

Zombie has directed horror films like House of 1000 Corpses (2003), The Devil’s Rejects (2005), a reboot for Halloween (2007), and his latest 3 From Hell (2019). He is also a co-founder of heavy metal band White Zombie.

NBCU confirmed that the reboot will be under Universal Studio’s 1440 Productions division, meaning the film will most likely stream on Peacock.
