Stephen Spielberg Producing Multiple Films for Netflix

Steven Spielberg will be producing multiple new feature films for Netflix following the announcement with Spielberg’s production company Amblin Partners.

HOUSTON (BACKSTAGEOL)- Steven Spielberg will be producing multiple new feature films for Netflix following the announcement with Spielberg’s production company Amblin Partners.

“At Amblin, storytelling will forever be at the center of everything we do, and from the minute Ted [ Sarandos ] and I started discussing a partnership, it was abundantly clear that we had an amazing opportunity to tell new stories together and reach audiences in new ways,” Spielberg announced in a statement Monday discussing the collaboration with Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

This union gives Netflix an edge over other popular streaming platforms like Disney Plus and HBO Max for gaining one of the most renowned movie directors in the business. Sarandos comments “Steven is a creative visionary leader… We cannot wait to get to work with the Amblin team and we are honored and thrilled to be part of this chapter of Steven’s cinematic history.”

The collaboration of these companies is building on Amblin’s iconic storytelling while maintaining its successful relationship with the film industry.

Back in 2019, tension between Spielberg and Netflix arose when Spielberg claimed that Netflix’s reluctance to release movies in theaters harmed “the motion picture experience.”

Netflix responded in a tweet saying, “We love cinema. Here are some things we also love: Access for people who can’t always afford, or live in towns without theaters…” Following more rumors and false accusations, they have put this dispute behind them and are seemingly excited to be collaborating for upcoming projects.

Spielberg is widely known for directing Oscar award-winning movies such as Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan. The newest project that Amblin and Netflix are collaborating on is Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” which is currently in pre-production. Spielberg will be directing projects for both Netflix and Universal Pictures simultaneously in the future.
