Canadian industrial rock band Skinny Puppy is demanding $666,000 from the U.S. military after it used their music as a “weapon” against Guantanamo Bay detainees. The band was “offended” when they learned their music was being used to “inflict damage” on the prison’s detainees.
“We sent them an invoice for our musical services considering they had gone ahead and used our music without our knowledge and used it as an actual weapon against somebody,”keyboardist Cevin Key told CTV. “I wouldn’t want to be subjected to any overly loud music for six to 12 hours at a time without a break.”
Skinny Puppy was notified by a fan of the band, who was a former guard at the naval base, that prison officials were playing their music at high volumes to inmates.
“I think he was coming at it from the fact that he was shocked that our music was being used because although he was a guard at Guantanamo Bay, he also happened to be a fan of our music,” added Key.
There’s no word so far on whether or not the U.S. military plans to pay the $666,000 bill.
