Elton John plans to pay tribute to the late-Liberace in his first performance at the Primetime Emmy Awards.

The multiple Grammy Award winner’s performance will feature guest appearances by Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, both of whom portrayed Liberace’s life in the HBO biopic Behind the Candelabra.  The film has received 15 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie and two nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie.

“We have a great performance by Sir Elton John,” host Neil Patrick Harris previewed. “He’s a friend and also super-talented. His new album is coming out and is amazing, so I’m looking forward to that.”

John will appear on the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 22nd.  Two days later, he will release his first new album in seven years, The Diving Board.
