Justin Bieber’s latest music video “Boyfriend” was uploaded on Youtube on Thursday and now has broken the record for most views ever in a single day.
Thanks to Bieber’s over 21 million Twitter followers the video racked up 8 million views in its first 24 hours. Since Thursday, “Boyfriend” has been viewed over 17.6 million times.
Two music videos for the song were filmed, the first being scrapped. The original Colin Tilley directed music video was filmed in a California studio the week of March 28, 2012. Tilley had previously worked with Bieber on the music video “U Smile.” Executives decided they did not like Tilley’s version of the video so they commissioned Director X to film a new version (shown below).
Director X summarized the new music video saying “it was just cars and the simplicity that they liked. Cars, girls, just young people hanging out, having fun, that kind of thing. When I heard it, I thought that’s what it should be.”
