Katy Perry Dominates Gaga in VMA Nominations

Katy Perry has dominated Lady Gaga in the number of nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Katy leads the pack with nine nominations including Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, and Video of the Year. When finding out about her nine nominations Ms. Perry tweeted, “I can’t sleep… I’m so excited… It feels like every birthday/Christmas/first kiss I ever had.”

Coming in second is Adele with seven nominations. Her album 21, is the best selling albums so far for 2011 due to her hit single “Rolling in the Deep” which is nominated for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, and Video of the Year (the same as Perry).

Lady Gaga only received three nominations in the VMAs, one for “Born This Way” and two for “Judas”. The fanbases of Gaga, Britney Spears (2 nominations) and Rihanna (0 nominations) are being quite vocal right now and the name calling against Perry and Adele has already started.

I am grateful that Ke$ha finally did not receive a nomination. Maybe America is finally getting tired of her trailer trash manners and we can move on with some class.

I have to give a special shout-out to good friends of BackstageOL, Cage the Elephant. They have received their first VMA nomination and they deserve everything they get. Good job guys!
