Lana Del Rey Postpones Tour after Bombing on National TV

Internet phenomenon Lana Del Rey finally made it up to the big leagues by performing on Saturday Night Live, only to bomb her national television debut.  Now the head brass at Interscope Records are postponing her tour so she can rehearse performing in front of a live audience.

“Just watched SNL. Not only was @LanaDelRey vocally WAY off, but watching her utter lack of stage presence was cringe-worthy,” said celebrity blogger Perez Hilton after watching her performance on SNL. @HipsterRunoff simply stated, “I was waiting for Lana Del Rey to ‘win’ indie, but she put on a snoozefest 4 Middle America on SNL.”

Lana Del Ray, real name Elizabeth Grant, had admitted to being very nervous before hitting the SNL stage on January 14.

Del Ray has been previously described as a “self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra” and cites Britney Spears, Elvis Presley and Kurt Cobain as her musical influences.  Her hit song “Video Games” was released on August 19, 2011 and has already made it to #37 on the Youtube 100 with over 26 million views.

Will Del Rey be able recover from this PR disaster?

It seems so.

Del Rey proved critics and skeptics wrong after performing on David Letterman last Thursday.  The singer is beginning to show a great improvement in both vocal range and stage presence.  She even admitted on Letterman that “…these critics are absolutely right, the music stage on Saturday Night Live is hallowed ground, and I failed to reach the high bar set by past guests, like Bubba Sparxxx, The Baha Men and Shaggy.”

For now Lana Del Rey will be putting off on touring. According to the New York Post, the top brass at Interscope Records has scrapped plans to announce a 30-date tour to support Del Rey’s new album Born to Die.

“[Lana] and her manager decided to cancel [the tour] after SNL,” a source told the New York Post’s Page Six “They figure it allows time for her to clear her head, then go back to selling tickets. More importantly, they figure, the extra time gives them more distance from SNL.”

The singer was clearly upset about the decision.
