Pop superstar Katy Perry whispered a new tune in our ears a couple of weeks ago when the singer released her edgy new single “Dark Horse,” the second offering from her highly anticipated forthcoming album Prism, on Sept. 17. On the thunderous track Perry, which features rapper Juicy J, explored a new sound asking, “Are you ready for, ready for/ A perfect storm, perfect storm?” over pounding drums and icy rhythms.
The first offering from Perry’s third full-length album Prism, was lead single “Roar,” Perry’s eighth chart-topping hit, which hit the internet prematurely on Aug. 9. With “Roar”, Perry released a wave of inspiration the singer is known for dishing out through the lyrics of her songs. In the song she declares, “I’ve got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire / ’cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar,” over striking piano melody, pounding drum and brassy slurs. Very empowering lyrics there. No wonder “Roar” is still tearing up the music charts in the top five of Billboard’s Hot 100!
On Monday (Sept. 30), Perry gave fans another taste of Prism, releasing a third single from the album, titled “Walking On Air.” In the new song the 28-year-old singer reaches back to the 90’s for a fresh sound. So far, we’ve been served with an empowering anthem, a trap-flavored track, and a 90’s vibe throwback jam. What else can we expect to hear on the new Prism album? We’ll have to wait until Oct. 22 to see. That’s less than a month away! Hold your dark horses. Prism will be here in no time!
