Did you tune in Monday night to relive some of your favorite TLC songs like “No Scrubs”, “Waterfalls” and “What About Your Friends”? VH1’s TV-made biopic, CrazySexyCool:The TLC Story, brought in big ratings for the network Monday night with 4.5 million total viewers for its debut.
It has been over a decade since Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ tragically died in a car crash, and since her death, TLC has yet to release another album. Fans are still crazy for the girl group though, with CrazySexyCool:The TLC Story scoring the highest Nielsen rating for VH1 in five years. The biopic also became the highest rated original movie in the network’s history. Over 1.9 million tweets were sent out Monday night about the show, the most for any show that night.
The biopic CrazySexyCool is named after TLC’s second album CrazySexyCool, the best-selling album by a girl group in the US, and the second best-selling album worldwide by a girl group behind Spice Girls’ Spice. The biopic followed the story of how Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas became TLC and how they battled with monetary issues in the music business despite being extremely successful. The girls were played by Drew Sedora as “T-Boz”, Lil Mama as “Left Eye”, and Keke Palmer played “Chilli”.
Earlier his month, TLC released the compilation album 20, which celebrates the trio’s 20 year career and features all their hits and a new song composed by Ne-Yo titled “Meant To Be”. The song debuted to fans at the end of CrazySexyCool‘s airing on Monday night and is available on the album 20.
