Michael Strahan Named Kelly Ripa’s Permanent Live Co-Host

Former football star Michael Strahan has joined “Live! With Kelly” as a permanent co-host. The Houston bred NFL star played football here in town at Westbury High School then Texas Southern University.

After longtime co-host Regis Philbin left last November, the show had a series of on-air tryouts of potential co-hosts. Apparently, Strahan’s hiring has been kept secret for the past two weeks.

Philbin was the original “Live!” host for more than 28 years, with Ripa joining him in 2001.

Strahan is one of several new faces in daytime television this fall. This morning Steve Harvey began his new talk show “The Steve Harvey Show” on Fox 26 in Houston.

In addition to co-hosting “Live! With Kelly”, Strahan will stay busy as host and analyst on “Fox NFL Sunday”.
