Travel Channel’s Anthony Bourdain Moves to CNN

American chef and author Anthony Bourdain is leaving the Travel Channel and taking his talents to CNN for a new program on the cable news network in 2013.

The new untitled show will have Bourdain exploring “cultures from around the world through their food, dining and travel rituals” and will air on Sunday nights.

“I’m really looking forward to coming over to CNN,” Bourdain announced. “I think the world is going to get a whole lot bigger for me. I hope that old fans and new ones will be excited about what’s coming down the road.”

Part of the CNN deal requires Bourdain to appear on CNN programs as a contributor. It is not clear whether he will start appearing on the cable news network before his new show airs early next year.

“For more than a decade, Anthony Bourdain has been a trailblazer in educating Americans about different cuisines and cultures around the world, as well as an outspoken commentator on social trends ranging from the rise of celebrity chefs to the impact of fast-food chains to the spread of vegetarianism and veganism,” Mark Whitaker, CNN Worldwide executive vp and managing editor announced Tuesday.

“Examining the world through the prism of Tony’s unique expertise and passions continues CNN’s long-standing commitment to international reporting and to promoting global understanding.”
