Filming Begins Today for Captain America: Winter Soldier

Filming began in Los Angeles today for the second installment in the Captain America series starring Chris Evans. While the first film was set during WWII, Captain America: Winter Soldier will be set during present day and follow the events that occurred during 2012’s Marvel Avengers.

According to a release by Disney, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.”

The star studded cast includes appearances by Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Maximiliano Hernández. In Winter Soldier audiences will be introduced to Agent Alexander Pierce, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., played by Robert Redford.

Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will direct Captain America: Winter Soldier.  The duo previously directed the comedy You, Me and Dupree and NBC’s Community.  After Los Angeles, the brother plan to continue filming locations in Cleveland and Washington DC.

Captain America: Winter Soldier is currently slated for an April 4, 2014 release.
