‘Independence Day 2’ Delayed Till 2016

Fox has announced that it is moving the release date of it’s highly-anticipated film Independence Day 2. The movie was originally slated for release in July of 2015, but studio bosses at 20th Century Fox have now confirmed the project will not hit the big screen until 12 months later on July 1st, 2016.

The date change now has the sequel hitting theaters almost exactly 20 years after the first Independence Day film. Roland Emmerich’s 1996 blockbuster Independence Day hit theaters on July 3, 1996, and went on to gross an impressive $817 million worldwide.

Emmerich is working on the sequel with Independence Day co-writer Dean Devlin and White House Down writer/producer James Vanderbilt.
