Only in the dreams of a musician’s mind will something occur that sends them into stardom with one simple phone call; the storybook “rags to riches”. In this case, Alyssa Bernal was awake. This is her story; the American Dream in action.
San Antonio, Texas native, born Alyssa Brianne Bernal started her journey in her junior year of High School; recording her first studio song with Houston based platinum producer Steve Valdez. After recording a few tracks, Alyssa began to explore her own individualistic sound and made a simple decision that changed her life forever.
Soon after creating a YouTube page, Alyssa started uploading videos doing mainstream cover songs using only her camera, guitar, and natural talent. Within a year, Alyssa had millions of hits on her YouTube videos along with a worldwide fan base. The Wheels of Fate had already set in motion.
Her success on YouTube caught the attention of Startrak Entertainment co-founder Pharrell Williams, who had already produced several chart topping hits. Pharell quickly tracked down Alyssa and asked her to immediately jump on a plane to Miami to meet in person. While arriving to meet with Pharrell, Alyssa caught the best of her nerves and rushed for a water fountain running into R&B superstar Chris Brown; which didn’t help the situation much. After a brief meeting, Pharrell made Alyssa an offer to join Startrak and quickly made a deal with partner Interscope.
After signing Bernal, Pharrell asked “If there was one producer whom you would like your album to be produced by, who would it be?” Alyssa replied “Whoever did Jason Mraz’s last album”. After a few phone calls Alyssa was on a plane to London to work with Martin Terefe for two months.
In November of last year her debut album “Love Hangover” was released on Interscope Records. “Love Hangover” is a heavily acoustic pop album with that “kick up your feet and relax” feel. Bernal’s voice is nothing short of angelically fresh and uplifting.
Alyssa is currently working on lining up another nationwide tour. The Official Alyssa Bernal YouTube channel hits stand at 150 million plus and growing with more than half a million subscribers. She is also a top three finalist for Coca-Cola’s Mix’On competition where the winner will perform at the American Music Awards 2012 alongside Jason Derulo. Voting begins September 24, 2012
