Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2013 Inductees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its list of inductees for 2013.

Artists included in the performer category include Rush, Donna Summers, Randy Newman, Public Enemy, Heart, Albert King and the late Donna Summers.  Non-performers Quincy Jones and and Lou Adler will be awarded the Ahmet Ertegun Award for their behind-the-scenes work in the music industry.

Rush member Alex Lifeson commented to CNN about the group’s extraordinary honor.

“For our fans, it’s very, very important, and we feel great for them,” he said. “We’re at the next stage and we’ll see if we’re actually inducted. If so, we’ll support it in every way we can for our fans.”

The late Donna Summers’ family released a statement thanking the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for recognizing “Donna’s tremendous musical achievements.”

“It’s an honor we know she quietly hoped for and would very much cherish. We are deeply grateful.”

In order to be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, artists must release their first single 25 years before being added to the ballot.  Artists that will eligible for nomination for the first time next year include Nirvana, Phish and The Offspring.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.  This is the first time in since 1993 that the event has been held on the West Coast.

The pre-recorded ceremony will air on HBO on May 18th at 8pm.
